exquisite black tie wedding at Grantley Hall in yorkshire

ELLA + AARON

“I could not recommend Ray enough, his work is incredible. The quality of our photographs and the highlight film blew us away and something we will always look back on. He fitted into our day perfectly and got on really well with all our guests. Communicated throughout the whole planning stage of our wedding and was always happy to answer any questions we had. Thank you so much!”

Grantley Hall is one of those venues that immediately feels special.

Set within the Yorkshire Dales, it has a sense of grandeur without feeling overdone, elegant architecture, beautiful interiors, immaculate grounds and a level of detail that makes it an incredible setting for a wedding. Ella and Aaron suited it perfectly, with a timeless black tie feel that ran through the whole day.

I arrived early to capture the venue in both photo and film, as I was creating a Highlight Film alongside the photography. The weather started a little uncertain, with drizzle coming and going through the morning, but by the time Ella and Aaron left the church, the sun appeared and stayed with us for the rest of the day. We were even treated to a beautiful golden hour later on, which was very much appreciated.

Ella spent the morning getting ready in the Presidential Suite, which was every bit as elegant as you’d expect. The whole morning had a calm, refined feel, with everyone getting ready before heading to the church just a few miles away in a nearby village.

After the ceremony, guests returned to Grantley Hall and were welcomed into the Orchard marquee. The styling had a wonderful Mediterranean feel, with orange trees, yellow bicycles and thoughtful details that brought so much character to the space. It felt warm, fresh and full of personality, while still sitting beautifully within the luxury of the venue.

Later in the day, I took Ella and Aaron out for a second set of portraits around golden hour. I’d planned the timing earlier, knowing where the light would be if the sun decided to appear, and thankfully it did exactly what we needed. With a bit of planning, the right light, and a little luck, we created some of my favourite portraits from the day.

The evening carried on with brilliant energy, with DJ Mark Green bringing the party and keeping the dance floor full. It was a long day, around 17 hours of coverage in total, but exactly the kind of wedding I love documenting properly from start to finish.

Ella and Aaron, thank you for trusting me to capture such an incredible day at Grantley Hall.
